The Great Stone Face- I Class 8 Summary in English
The Great Stone Face is a story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It is about a man who is obsessed with a mountaintop. Ernest, a little child, lives in the valley with his mother. Ernest is being told about the Great Stone Face by his mother.
Everyone in the valley was aware of it. Ernest was now learning about it. It is, undoubtedly, a natural wonder. It is a local mountaintop with massive rocks that, from a distance, mimic the characteristics of a human face. So much so that it appears to be alive.
Ernest had the impression that the gigantic face was continually smiling at him. His mother informs him about a local tradition that a guy with a gigantic face would come to the valley one day. That man will be the greatest and most honourable of all.
This sparked Ernest’s attention even further. Ernest is a cheerful and helpful toddler who matures into a kind and calm adult. Gathergold, a guy, left the valley many years ago.
He is now a wealthy guy who has returned to the valley. People begin to discuss Gatherg.
Ernest, on the other hand, did not believe he was the one. He visits the huge face on a daily basis. It always makes him wonder why the doppelganger hasn’t returned. Gathergold had died by this point, with little resemblance to the huge face.
Meanwhile, another valley resident joins the army and departs the valley. He is well-known on the battlefield, but he is now old and has returned to his valley. Again, many believe he is the one, but Ernest remains unsatisfied. He sees no similarity and continues to assume that the true look-alike is not yet present. He waits for the man who resembles the Big Stone Face to appear.
